MISSING IN ACTION:
No new dramas for the Cowboys with coach Neil Henry sticking with the same side that went down in a tight one to Manly last weekend. Ricky Thorby and Anthony Mitchell have both been named on an extended bench but are expected to drop off if there are no late injury issues. Barnstorming forward Tariq Sims (broken leg) is a chance to return in the next couple of weeks.

The Warriors have been boosted by the returns of lock Micheal Luck and centre Konrad Hurrell after both missed the loss to Cronulla on Sunday. But while they get two back, two more drop out with five-eighth James Maloney (knee) and prop Ben Matulino (pectoral) succumbing to injuries.

FORM:
Not much to get excited about for either side in terms of wins but there’s no doubt who is playing the better football at the moment. North Queensland have lost their last two matches but both those games were tight affairs against title contenders Canterbury and Manly. It has seen the Cowboys drop back to sixth spot but with a favourable run home their top four hopes are still very much in their hands.

It’s a much different story across the ditch with last year’s grand finalists no chance to make the finals. Last weekend’s 45-4 drubbing at home against Cronulla is the lowest point of what’s become a forgettable first season in charge for Brian McClennan. The Kiwi side have lost their last four matches and with a horror record in Townsville (losing their last seven at Dairy Farmers Stadium) that streak should continue for at least another week

Under-fire Dragons five-eighth Jamie Soward is back in the NRL squad after a week with the Illawarra Cutters in the NSW Cup. FORM:
The Tigers hope they have put an inconsistent couple of months behind with their 51-26 win over the Eels on Monday night. While they should get plenty of confidence from posting a half-century of points, the match did expose their deficiencies without the ball. The win, just their second from their last seven matches, has put the Tigers back in the top eight on 24 points but only two ahead of the Titans, Knights, Raiders and Dragons, who are all hoping to capitalise if Tim Sheens’ side falter over the last four rounds.

St George Illawarra’s finals hopes nose-dived with their disappointing 26-10 loss to the lowly Sydney Roosters last Friday night. After comprehensively beating Melbourne a week earlier, it was a surprisingly meek performance from a side fighting for their finals lives. With no second chances now, Steve Price’s side should be a whole lot more desperate in this match. The Dragons have the worst away record in the NRL this season, winning just one of eight matches on the road into 2012.

Despite going down by 25 points, Eels caretaker coach Brad Arthur has decided to stick with the same 17 that went around against the Tigers on Monday. Of the players unavailable through injury, only Willie Tonga (knee) and pivot Luke Kelly (cheekbone) are a chance of making a return in the final few rounds of the season. Parramatta were on track to make it a hat-trick of wins last Monday night against Wests Tigers when they raced out to a 22-6 lead after just 28 minutes. Unfortunately for the Eels, the Tigers posted eight of the final nine tries of the game to bolt home. The Eels missed 45 tackles in the game and seven of those were by rookie centre Cheyse Blair, who still has a lot to learn about NRL footy. If good enough, the last-placed Eels can still avoid the dreaded wooden spoon.

The Roosters hadn’t won in a month before taking the field against the Dragons last Friday night, but they went on to produce a performance that has left many of their fans lamenting what could have been in 2012. The 26-10 win was spearheaded by maligned half-back Mitchell Pearce, who bagged a hat-trick of tries in his best showing of the season. Rookie winger Roger Tuivasa-Sheck also impressed with some scintillating touches.
